St. Paul's

StPaulSt.Paul’s Lutheran Church, located across Lewis Avenue from Whittier, has a long history of supporting Whittier students and families as part of its mission to journey with the neighbors God gives us.Some St. Paul’s members are retired teachers or librarians who served at Whittier and still serve as substitute teachers.  St. Paul’s members helped build the raised garden beds on the south side of the school as well as flower beds in front of the building.

Several St. Paul’s members volunteer in the Kids Hope USA mentoring program.
The congregation nurtures a love for reading by providing a book for every student in the third through fifth grades every year and has a “Little Free Library” in the church’s lawn and at Powell Park. It has also purchased laptop computers for students in the STEM program.
At the outset of the Covid-19 pandemic, St. Paul’s delivered weekly meals to Whittier families in need  and then helped feed the entire neighborhood for more than a year through a weekly distribution of groceries in the church parking lot.
It also offers free clothing for adults and children on the first Saturday of each month.
The church is about to break ground on Gracia Community Gardens, an effort to provide free, fresh food and build community in the neighborhood.  Whittier families are especially encouraged to participate.
