Dear Whittier Elementary Families and Staff:
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released the annual Illinois School Report Card, providing families and communities across the state with an overview of student achievement and school performance. This year's Report Card reflects data from the 2025-2026 school year and can be viewed at https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/School.aspx?schoolid=340490600262021
The Report Card provides an opportunity to celebrate our school's accomplishments, reflect on the progress we're making, and identify areas where we can continue to improve. This year's Report Card also introduces a new statewide system for evaluating schools and assigning performance designations.
Whittier received a Commendable designation for the 2025-2026 school year. Please see your email with the full letter for more information!
Sincerely,
Claudia Ramirez
Principal, Whittier Elementary
Dear Whittier Families,
We are excited to announce that our annual Whittier Fall Parade will take place on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.! 🍁🎃
We look forward to celebrating this fun fall tradition with our students and families! To ensure a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable experience for everyone, please review the following important information.
Thank you to everyone that donated candy, their decorating talents, and time to join the parade! We had a wonderful time seeing so many members of our community along the route!
This morning, we successfully completed our annual lockdown DRILL in collaboration with the Waukegan Police Department! Please a moment tonight to talk with your student about being safe at school and at home.
Thank you!
Please bring a dish to share!
Kindergarten & 1st Grade: Desserts and drinks
2nd & 3rd Grade: Side dishes and salads
4th & 5th Grade: Main dishes
In addition to sharing a meal, we will be playing Lotería! We will have fun prizes for our winners!
We are also excited to welcome Ballet Folklórico Erandi, a local dance troupe, who will be performing for us. We are especially excited that some of the performers are Whittier students and parents!
We are looking forward to spending the evening together and celebrating our wonderful Whittier community. We can’t wait to see you there!
As a reminder, please be mindful when parking in the family lot. We ask that cars do not block handicap or loading spaces. The church in front of us has graciously agreed to continue letting us utilize their parking lot at arrival and dismissal.
Our next early release is tomorrow, September 23rd at 1:03 p.m.!
Today we had our first fire drill of the year with the Waukegan Fire Department! Our students and staff did a wonderful job following safety expectations. Please talk with your child at home about fire safety as well.
As a reminder next week we have an Early Release on 09/23/26 (1:03 p.m.) and our Loteria Night on 09/24/26 (5:00-6:30 p.m.).
Thank you!
As a reminder, Whittier Elementary is an early release school! Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 26th, students will be dismissed at 1:03 p.m. Please see our school calendar for key dates!
We also have our Back to School Carnival* this week on Thursday, August 27th @ 3:30-6:00 p.m.! We will have bouncy houses, community resources, and food vendors.
*This event is for Whittier families only. All students must be accommodated by their guardian at all times.
Welcome to another exciting year of learning at Whittier Elementary! Please take a few minutes to read Whittier's August Newsletter!
As you look ahead to the 2026–2027 school year, please make a note of both Whittier based events and WPS60 District led events tentatively scheduled on our master calendar.
We look forward to partnering with our school community to ensure that every student in our Whittier Wolf PACK succeeds!
